BBC Alba - Farpaisean Chon-Chaorach

Tuesday 4th March

The ninth episode, and the climax of Farpaisean Chon-Chaorach series Six, is the third and final programme from the International Supreme Championship.

This is the biggest date in any sheepdog trialist’s diary. With the 16 top qualifiers from the first two days of the competition running a course twice the length of the qualifying course the final day of the tournament is tough, and exciting. The list is full of experience, including Aled Owen, Nigel Watkins, Irish President Con McGarry and last year’s Supreme winner, Ian Brownlie.  All are competing to claim the James A Reid Shield, awarded to the International Supreme Champion.

As the tension builds at the competition Kevin Walker catches up with last year’s Supreme winner, Scotland’s very own Ian Brownlie. Kevin and Ian analyse his Supreme run from 2012 with the champion providing a personal insight into how the tournament was won.  Ian modestly explains that on a huge course with hidden elements that much of his 2012 run was ‘guess work’.

Our last feature in the series is the Brace competition which takes place during the two qualifying days at the International. Julie Hill and Hamish MacLean from Scotland both compete and explain the complexities behind running with two dogs at once.  We find out how dogs are paired and reveal the all-important winner of this year’s trophy!
