BBC Alba - Farpaisean Chon-Chaorach

Broadcasting on Tuesday 14 January

Episode 2 comes from Airtnoch Farm in Fenwick, near Eaglesham.

This trial is held at the home farm of the one of the most experienced handlers in the business, John Templeton. Despite this being a local trial the event attracts some of the country’s best known competitors, such as Jock Welsh and Mosse Magnusson.  A stunning venue, the trial is held in the foreground of the Eaglesham wind turbines, in what proves to be a tough and exciting day of competition.

In an extended feature we take a closer look at the Whitelee Windfarm. Our reporter catches up with Alan Mortimer from Scottish Hydro who provides us with a behind the scenes look at the farm’s visitor centre, as well as explaining how the turbines actually work. We also learn some interesting facts via his interesting insight into renewable energy.

In our second extended feature Mairi Alice Barlett talks exclusively to the trial’s host, John Templeton. The experienced shepherd takes us on a journey into his successful past, recounting tales from the 1950s and 1960s. In front of almost 50,000 spectators, John won trials in London’s Hyde Park in 1958 and 1966 alongside his ‘best ever dog’.
