A superb day...  scoring runs just like the first two and a cliff-hanger of a run-off for the top three.  All are agreed that the 'five-a-day' format has produced a wonderful National trial, full of interest and excitement. The result separating first and second places was so close.

The wonderful ending shows in the Team picture above. E Wyn Edwards, the Welsh President is on the right and is Brace Champion.  Although having won the National and Supreme singles in the past this is his first Brace win and he was very happy.  However it could have been so much more as the Singles win for him was just one point away for each judge as he competed with Glyn Jones and Kevin Evans in the Run-off. The judges knew that separating such good dogs with superb sheep would be hard and they looked for every fault, thus the run-off points were just that bit more testing over a full course. Glyn went first and 14 of his 22 points lost were at the Pen. Kevin's run was next and he lost the same at the Pen, but also a little more on the Drive.  Wyn's run had a perfect Pen, but points were lost on the Single, and he was just that fraction behind Glyn in the total score.  John Grifith is seen on the left in the Team picture, a previous many times Brace Champion.

A Delighted Champion. The Jones family, from Lanarmon, Denbighshire has good reason to be delighted.  As well as father Glyn's superb success to become Welsh Singles Champion, and Team Captain, son Gethin made it into the team with a late run on the last day.  Gethin is the youngest team member and received the young handler awards.  As well as the winner's cups and Gilpa Silver Whistle, Glyn received the magnificent Challis Shield because his Ben is Welsh bred.

The Driving Dog will be Meirion Jones' Joe.
