The Final Day, and a day of tension and excitement for the top 15 dogs and men from the two days of qualifying. We had 6 from Wales; 5 from Scotland and 2 each from Ireland and England. The Welsh dogs had some of the morning runs when the weather was cloudy but reasonable.

At midday a strong wind took up with showers and at one stage we were in fear for the safety of the grandstands. Several afternoon runs then took place in rain and blowy conditions - not easy for the dogs to hear when 800 yards away. Thus the first casualty being Michael Shearer who retired with Bob, followed by Wyn Edwards retiring with Clwyd Jac. Andrew Carnegie had an excellent start to his run and was in contention until almost the end, but did, however, secure the Driving Championship.
The yound handler competition at midday took place in similarly difficult weather. But there were impressive performances from all four handlers and dogs. The winners by a margin were Kevin Howlett and Tess from Scotland. Young Handlers are seen here holding their trophies, Kevin being on the left.

The Wilkinson Sword, given each year for outstanding contribution to the sheepdog world, is here being presented to Tim Flood of Ireland by the Chairman of the ISDS, Mr Jim Easton.
