The Early Trials Project

An online guide, compiled from many different sources, to the earliest trials, some even earlier than the famous Bala trial of 1873, up to when trialling stopped in 1914 at the outbreak of World War I. Your help in adding to the information in the section very welcome!

The James Reid Years

James Reid became the secretary of the ISDS either just before the outbreak of World War I or when trialling resumed in 1919, and he held the post until 1946, after World War II had ended. The years between the wars were ones of considerable expansion, and notes on the period will form the next section of this online guide.
