The course - everyone is talking about it, but this doesn't show just how tricky it is Saturday 7.05: Runoffs are over - Nigel Watkins has won! Saturday 6.25: Daniel Jarman moves into third position on 192. The final runoff is about to start - Graham on first, then Nigel, Mervyn last. Saturday 5.30: Just three runs to go before the runoff. Saturday 4.45: Two runs on 202! Graham Powell is heading the list by a single olf point from Aled Owen. Kevin Evans is third on 190. Saturday 3.15: A new leader - Jane Drinkwater has taken top spot on 188. Saturday 2.40: Congratulations to Colin Gordon on winning the Welsh National Brace title with Mirk & Jess. Although today's two brace runs were both good, neither was good enough to beat Colin's run yesterday. It is J R Griffith's first brace run pairing Fan with Roy, and they have notched up a team place! Saturday 1.40: The scores up to the lunchtime break have been posted. The brace runs have now finished, and the scores are expected in the next half hour. The singles runs have restarted, and there are plenty of good combinations to come - scores so far today have not been quite so high, but that could change over the next few hours. Saturday 10.00: The rain has intensified, but a couple of scores in the 180s have been posted. Saturday 8.40: The final day has started - the early mist has cleared, and the wind is not so cold as yesterday, but it is drizzly. Calculating the positions of third and fourth place yesterday took longer than expected, with John griffith and Alun Jones equal on 194, and also equal on drive and shed points - in the end it was down to J R Griffith and Fan's two point advantage at the pen. Handlers will be hoping for equally high points today.
Alun Jones (Selatyn) local committee chairman and in the team with Rob Friday 6.40: Trialling is over for the day. Friday 5.40: About a dozen runs to go; some more scores in the mid 180s have been posted, but they won't be quite enough to make a team place today.
Current leaders Nigel Watkins and Floss at the pen. Friday 3.00: The weather is now dry and blustery. Today's sheep are from a different flock, owned by Bryn Davies, of Bryneglwys, and are working exceptionally well. This morning a number of handlers opted for the left hand outrun, but this afternoon most seem to be going right again so far.
Brace champions, Colin Gordon with Mirk & Jess Elin Pyrs and Eryri Taran Friday 2.00: Both brace runs seem to have gone well. G L Jones Llanarmon with Don and Zak scored 202, but Colin Gordon with Mirk & Jess have taken the lead in the brace competition with 215. The singles runs are resuming, and Nigel Watkins has taken the lead by a full twenty points, on 210 with Floss. Friday 12.00: One more run (Emyr Lloyd) before the brace runs. Friday 10.30: Paul Tomkins has joined the leaders, also on 188. This morning, outruns are proving more difficult than yesterday. Friday 9.30: The sheep are working well; some high scores already on the board, with Hefin Jones and Sam set the standard with 188, only to be topped by the very next run, Cyril Roberts and Tweed now leading on 190. Friday 8.50: Another 46 handlers in the singles and two in the doubles go to the post today. It has rained heavily overnight; dry briefly, but raining now and more forecast for today and tomorrow.
Richard Millichap and Dewi Tweed were in top spot for most of the day
Alun Jones and Bet single a collared ewe. Thursday 7.15: The lead has changed yet again, with Mervyn Price and Mac reaching 200. They will compete in Satuirday's runoff to decide this year's National Champion. Thursday 5.45: Jed Watson has joined the leaders with Mirk - with just a small number of runs to go, the target has risen to 186. Thursday 5.15: Good scores coming thick and fast during the afternoon, but the top two are still there - will anyone reach the 200 mark today? More handlers are sending their dogs on the left hand outrun this afternoon. The weather is slightly brighter - the rain has blown off. Some packets of sheep are being difficult to hold at the top of the field this afternoon. Thursday 3.30: A new leader! Pennant Williams and Dale have taken over the top spot. Thursday 2.00: Just one Brace run today, from Jim Dyson, who retired. Kevin Evans and Mirk have gone into fourth place on 172. Thursday 12.00: The rain may be putting a slight dampener on proceedings, but the course and sheep are making up for it. The course is on an undulating and testing hill. There’s a line of trees to the right and mature trees in the open, with gullies and hummocks to add to the test. The majority of handlers have favoured the right hand outrun so far. Many dogs have needed extra whistles to find their sheep. The sheep are generally working well around the field and at hand. Reigning International champions Richard Millichap and Dewi Tweed have had a good run and are the first to score above 190. Eryl P Roberts and Alun Jones (Defaidity) have also posted good runs. Coming up later this morning are Aled Owen, Kevin Jones and Wales’ 2009 winner Gwyn Jones, Penmachno. Thursday 10.40: Reigning International Champion Richard Millichap with Dewi Tweed have begun the major trials season as they mean to go on, posting 196 points at run no 8 on the first morning of the Welsh National. Other good scores are beginning to come in - Alan Jones (Defaidity) with Bet is on 181. More news to follow later this morning. Thursday 9.00: Trialling has started with on Welsh Mountain sheep on a grey, damp and dark morning - hopefully the weather will improve later on. The Welsh National is choosing five team members a day, so some team members will be known by the end of today, the brace over the three days, and the final team placings by the end of Saturday after the runoff to decide the National Champion. Reports and scores throughout the three days. Brace scores The top two join the Welsh International team (see above).
