Gwyn Jones and Clwyd Nell complete thye shed in the runoff at the end of a thrilling day's trialling. Pic: k9tales.co.uk Latest News: Sunday 7am: With such a small margin between three superb runs, there have been many requests for the Judges' Points for the runoffs. ROY Outrun 1 Lift 2 Fetch 11 Drive 9 Shed 8 Pen 2 Single 2 Total 35 deducted = 185 points. CLWYD NELL Outrun 3 Lift 0 Fetch 5 Drive 5 Shed 2 Pen 1 Single 14 Total 30 deducted = 190 points. MAC Outrun 6 Lift 0 Fetch 3 Drive 9 Shed 1 Pen 0 Single 12 Total 31 deducted = 189 points. Saturday 8.15pm: Gwyn Jones (Penmachno) has won the National title with Clwyd Nell by a very small margin in a classic runoff between two of the great Welsh International Champions. Aled Owen is second with Mac and third with Roy. Saturday 7pm: The draw for the runoff has been made. First will be Aled Owen (today's winner) with Roy, then Gwyn Penmachno (Friday) with Clwyd Nell, and the Aled Owen (Thursday) with Mac. The contest is about to start! Saturday 6.30pm: Several retirements have speeded things along. Alun Jones (Selatyn) has moved into fourth place with Rob on 198. Rob Lewis has made a late bid with Mirk, finishing on 197. There are now just 3 runs to go before the runoff.

Rowland Fernyhough competing this afternoon with Ben. Pic: k9tales.co.uk Saturday 3.30pm: More high scores cotinue to be posted - Nigel Watkins with Lad running at No 125 scored 196, and the following run by Will Jones with Nip scored 197. With just over 20 runs to go, the total needed to make the team today could be as much as the winning scores on the first two days. Saturday 1.45pm: Congratulations to Ian Jones, 2009 Welsh National Brace Champion. Running last of the five entrants, he had Wyn Edwards' 231 to beat, and managed it, but only just, finishing on 233. Both Wyn and Ian will compete in the International Brace competition in September. Saturday 1.30pm: It has stopped raining at last, and the final session of singles runs has begun. Once the 150th run has been completed, there will be a runoff for National Champion. With Gwyn Penmachno and Aled Owen already in the draw, the latter twice if, as seems likely, nobody beats his score of 209, only 11 points dropped between two judges, this will be a real Champion of Champions contest, both having won the International three times, each time with a different dog. Saturday 12noon: The Brace runs have started - two more strong contenders aiming to beat yesterday's 178 posted by Colin Gordon. Three Singles scores in the 180s were posted just before the break, good runs, but they won't be good enough to make the team today. Saturday 11am: The high scores continue with a 203 and a 200 posted to the board. The weather isn't good - the iPhone can't cope with the dull conditions, but we hope to have some pics later on. Saturday 10am: Aled Owen has just posted a great run with Roy in the rain. Just one whistle on the outrun, a couple of little wobbles on the fetch, but very little else to deduct. At 209, it will take some beating! Saturday 9.30am: A drizzly blustery day. High scores have come early, with both the first two handlers posting above 190. Mark Bufton sent Nim right and needed no extra commands on the outrun. He shed well and the sheep walked straight into the pen. Saturday 7am: Apologies for the lack of some results - the Hot Results page seems to have broken down - perhaps through overuse!. More details later. Best handlers from Friday: Top Gwyn Panmachno; Middle: Jed Watson; Bottom: Richard Millichap/ Pics: k9tales.co.uk Friday 10pm: Gwyn Jones Penmachno is today's winner. Five results are unfortunately missing from today's list, but I understand that none of the last five affected the team placings, but the team list will be confirmed in the morning.
Arwyn Davies and Moel Floss. Pic: k9tales.co.uk Friday 6pm: Just five runs to go. Richard Millichap and Taddymoor Jen have posted 193 to give them a likely team place from today's running. but nobody else has troubled the leaders since mid afternoon, although an impressive score of 179 was posted by 15 year old Arwyn Davies. Friday 5pm: Kevin Evans and Spot, tipped to do well, had to retire after Spot left the course on the outrun. Friday 3pm: This morning's sun has given way to rain. Gwyn Jones Penmachno has just had a good run, to taske him just one point ahead of Jed Watson. Right hand outrun, one whistle about halfway up. Very good shed. Dog worked well. Emyr Lloyd and Wyn Edwards have also posted high scorse which will almost certainly be good enough for a team place. A standard has now been brought in to speed up proceedings. Friday 1.30pm: Today's Brace runs have just been completed. See details below.
Colin Gordon running in the Brace with Joe and Jess. Pic: k9tales.co.uk Friday 12.30pm: Another new leader - Jed Watson with Mirk have equalled yesterday's 197 by Aled Owen to take over at the top of the Friday leader board. He sent the dog to right, good outrun, no extra commands. A good line at the top half of fetch but one ewe was splitting off on the lower section. Jed got them together for the drives, got on with the at hand work and finished well. Judges' points: outrun 0; lift 2; fetch 6; drives 9; shed 0; pen 2; single 4. Friday 11am: Gethin Jones and Eira have gone to the top of today's board with 186. Friday 10am: The weather is again bright and ideal for trialling. Some slight alterations have been made to the course for today: the sheep are not beoing pushed out so far, and they stand to the left above the tree so the fetch is on a slightly different line. They've also brought in the flexible fence on the right at the top so there's less open space at the top. David Howells and Jaimie have had a good run, the only real fault being two out at the first drive gates, with good at hand work. Everyone has sent their dogs to the right so far.
Llyr Evans and Sam competing this morning. They scored 167. Pic: k9tales.co.uk Friday 8am: Another day, another 50 Singles and two Brace competitors will be going to the post. Aled Owen and Mac. Pic: k9tales.co.uk Thursday 7pm: Aled Owen and Mac took the honours on the first day of trialling and will be in Saturday's runoff to decide the National Champion. Harcourt Lloyd, Richard Millichap, Kevin Evans, and Vaughan Hughes are also in the team. Thursday 3.40pm: A standard is now in place, and the sheep are working better this afternoon, flowing more.
The first competitor, Hamer Jones and Jack, on the course. The sheep are let out on the yellow section beyond the single tree. Pic: k9tales.co.uk Thursday 2.45pm: Two new leaders in quick succession: Harcourt Lloyd with his two year old Kilcreen Tess took the lead on 195, but just a few runs later Aled Owen and Mac took over the top slot with a 197. Aled had a good run, with a right hand outrun, two whistles. The sheep bolted to right behind the trees before the dog got there but Aled got hold of them and got them back on line. Good lines on the drives and very good pen. Thursday 1.45pm: The Brace competition has begun - see below - and the Singles have resumed after lunch. Thursday 12.45am: Although there have been problems at the top of the field, three scores of 190 or above have already been posted. Richard Millichap is the current leader on 193. He had a good run with Dewi Tweed. They took a right hand outrun, and finished with an excellent pen and a good shed and single. Kevin Evans is one point behind on 192. He had a decent run with Mirk on a tricky packet of sheep that didn't want to flow. Nigel Watkins and Floss would have been in contention, but had two out at second drive gates and finished on 183. Thursday 8.15am: The trial is under way. The weather is perfect for trialling. The sheep are Beulahs. The drive is to the right, and the shedding ring is to the left of the mown shedding ring. J R Griffith with Fan and Gwenno in Thursday's opening Brace run. Pic: k9tales.co.uk The Brace competition takes place during the lunch breaks on all three days of the National trial. The highest pointed handler and dogs become the National Champions, and, together with the runners up, compete for the International Brace title at Lowther Park in September. Thursday's competitor, J R Griffith, has won the International Brace championship more times than anyone else, and both Fan and Gwenno have a lot of experience and success in Brace competition. However, the run didn't go well - two sheep got left behind at the lift, probably not visible to the handler because of the tree. One joined fairly high on the fetch and the last one ran down and joined before the fetch gates. Friday's Brace runs have just finished Ian Jones with Jess and Tom needed a good run, with Wyn Edwards having just put up a good score. Ian sent Tom right and Jess left, used Jess to shed and at the open pen - good pen with her. They topped the list by just two points to take this year's National Brace title.
