These sixteen will also automatically be part of the Scottish World Trial team, any further places going to dogs according to their National entry qualifying points (with a ballot if necessary), in order to give team places to dogs which have performed well over the year but not had good National runs. Happiness is... Latest news Including reports and pics from the field by Sine Robertson Saturday 7.00 : The winners are announced - Scott R enwick is this year's Scottish National Champion with Roci (pictured above). Saturday 5.30 : Jock Welsh goes into seventh place with Tanhill Nap on 175, and just a few runs to go. Saturday 3.35: Retirals continue (no retirement parties), but despite the fact that the sheep have given a number of opportunities to shed which have failed to materialise, there have been some good scores. Davie Shennan and Meg penning
Saturday 2.00: Congratulations to the new Scottish National Brace Champions Ewen Mackinnon with Nan & Gyp! Jimmy Menzies competing in the brace with Baledmund Hope and Baledmund Cher. Roddy MacDiarmid and Jim singliing to post today's highest score so far. Saturday 1.00: The brace has just ended - scores awaited. Saturday 12.30: A couple of better scores amongst the many retirals have enlovened the leader board. The brace competition will be decided over the lunch break. Saturday 10.30: It is a warm day which has raised spirits to a degree, but on the business end of things it is like pension day at the Post Office (full of retireds). There have been some big disappointments with fine runs and deserving handlers failing to single within the allotted time, this pattern being already established. Alex McCuish and Moss at the shed on Friday afternoon. Bobby Henderson's Tag puts the sheep round the post. Saturday 8.00: The final day is just getting under way, sunny at the moment, and we should soon have an indicaiton of how the sheep are running. Reports and pictures follow throughout the day, and the leader board will be updated to indicate who is likely to be in the team as the latest scores are posted. Friday 8.45: After such a promising start on Thursday, it is sad but undeniable that today has been disappointing - for experienced handlers and regular team members who saw good work on the course wasted by lengthy periods trying both to settle and contain the sheep in the shedding ring, which failed to produce the required cut. It was disappointing for less accomplished handlers who overreached themselves on the course and met the same result in the ring; for Scottish triallists and trial followers, who hoped to see our best handlers show themselves and their dogs to advantage and earn a place in a strong national team, ready to take on the other home nations. It was disappointing for individuals and families who have come to one of Scotland's beauty spots for three or four days to find themselves standing under a dripping marquee or sitting in a steamed up vehicle to the accompaniment of caged dogs breathing heavily. It was disappointing for organisers, who found and schooled good Blackface gimmers, an ideal, challenging, but not unreasonable, course in a lovely and unusually level area in the foothills of the Grampian mountains - level enough for parking, socialising and camping/caravaning - out of sight of mainstream society. The day has been wet, the sheep have been hard to settle at the top of the field, and difficult to shed, and sometimes too to pen, but, as Scarlett O'Hara said, tomorrow is another day. Friday 7.45:Today's runs are over, and all the scores are listed at the foot of this page. Friday 6.25: Eight runs to go tonight, no new scores to challenge the leaders. On the current showing, the cutoff point for team places is a little below 170. However, all depends on how the runs go on Saturday - Thursday was bright and warm with good running, and scores reached the 180s; today has been wet and cold, and scores have averaged at least ten points lower. Friday 5.00: The drizzle has turned back to rain. Stuart Davidson with Jim has gone into sixth position at run 84. Friday 4.00: Bobby Dalziel and Joe have posted 169 to take them onto the current leader board. The results up to No80 are available below but not showing on the hot results page. Did you see that? Iain MacMillan and Don penning. Friday 2.00: Today's only brace run was from Hamish MacLean with Kim and Roy, who scored 190. The singles competition has resumed. Scores are not (yet) as high as yesterday's. Friday 12.25: The weather today has gone from dull and cold to wet. Ewen Mackinnon has gone into second place. Time continues to run out in the shedding ring, and some good runs and experienced handlers are suffering there. There is only one brace run today, Hamish MacLean with Kim and Roy, which is in progress at the moment. Friday 11.15: The judges have set a standard, so running should finish a little earlier tonight. It has started to rain, so the conditions are not as favourable as yesterday. Friday 10.30: Ewen Mackinnon is the first of today's handlers to go onto the leader board, scoring 185 with Nan. The indication is that scores in excess of 170 will be needed to have any chance of a team place. Friday 8.00: The second day is about to start. Reports and pics throughout the day. Jock Welsh with his black & white Tanhill Nap and red & white Tanhill Sweep. Ewen MacKinnon's Gyp takes control of the two shed sheep.
Neil MacEachern and Ann at the post, showing the course. Current leader, Scott Renwick and Roci. Thursday 8.00: Trialling has finished for the first day, with some good scores posted. Thursday 6.20: The latest scores page is not working as it should - this may be because of a high volume of traffic. Scores will be posted on this page. Thursday 5.20: The weather has become hotter, and typically of good sheep, the gimmers have proved difficult to separate in the shedding ring, with many good rubns, some of them from noted handlers, running out of time either at the shed or the pen., Thursday 3.40: Some more runs, and the sun is shining, but no more significant scores to report. Thursday 12.30: The weather is warming up and as predicted fine runs from Scott Renwick and Jock Welsh have raised the bar. Since then, Michael Shearer and Bob have gone into second place on 184. Thursday 11.30: The Scottish National is off to a good start with fine weather and sheep well above the average for a National, and an excellent course combining an open aspect which lets spectators see the action with terrain that promises to test the handlers' ability to judge a straight line. The first run to show was Iain MacDonald from Staffin on Skye. Of the seven handlers that have followed, Scott Renwick and Jock Welsh seem likely to have overtaken him. Thursday 9.00: The fourth run is under way. It is a cloudy but pleasantly warm day, and the Blackface sheep are running well. Thursday 7.30: Trialling starts at 8am, news will be added throughout the day. There will be approximately 50 single runs today. No brace runs until tomorrow.
