Knowledge Base: Austin Bennett
Sculptor, Austin Bennett, has been fascinated by the working Border Collie since he was a boy but didn’t start to work and train his own dogs until he moved from London to a small hamlet in the South Shropshire Hills in 1982. Since then, he has involved himself in a diverse range of sheepdog related activities. An enthusiastic and successful trials competitor, he has competed at national level and on television’s ‘One Man and His Dog’. He judges competitions, has acted as a training instructor, and gave sheepdog demonstrations at country shows for many years. His articles on sheepdog handlers, border collies and general sheepdog matters have appeared in national and specialist magazines and he has contributed to, and collaborated on, books on the subject. He wrote his first article under the title ‘One Man’s Way with Dogs’ in 1990, for the magazine ‘Working Sheepdog News.’ Instantly popular amongst sheepdog enthusiasts, it has continued to the present day, appearing as a major feature in what has now become ‘International Sheepdog News’.
