Latest News:
Saturday 9.25: A very close runoff. Frankie McCullough and Craig ran first and scored 183, Peter Concannon and Rob second, scoring 182, and Frankie McCullough with Jake third, scoring 160. So, by a single point in the runoff, Frankie McCullough and CRAIG are this year's Irish National Champions - congratulations! Saturday 8.15: Last results are in - just one addition to the top marks, and the runoffs are under way. Saturday 6.10: Six to go before the runoff, so things are hotting up. David Corrigan has moved into fifth position with Ben on 190. Will any of the competitors top Peter Concannon's 205? Saturday 4.15: The competition is progressing more quickly than on the first two days. ANother high score, this time from Seamus Gallagher with Glen on 189, has been added to the leaders. Just 19 to go and the runoff to decide the champion. Saturday 3.20: In the singles, the 200 mark has been reached - Peter Concannon is the new leader with Rob on 205. The Brace competition has been completed - today's three runs failed to match that of Sammy Long with Moss and Sam on Thursday, so they are 2010 Irish National Brace Champions - congratulations! Saturday 1.00: A new leader! Michael Hopkins and Lass now top today's list with 198. The Brace is now under way, and the Brace champion will be known soon. Saturday 12 noon: The better weather has brought out some higher scores - the day started as it meant to go on with the first run of the day from Charlie Flood and Toss scoring 196. Just a few runs later, the score was matched by Gerard Graham and Jess, and as the leader board above shows, there have been plenty of other good runs this morning. Saturday 7.50: The last day is about to start - the final 50 singles runs, three more brace runs, and at the end of the day the runoff between the winners of the three days of trialling to decide the Irish National Champion. Frankie McCulllough is already in a good position with two bites at the cherry. Neat work at hand gains Becca another team place Photo: Kim Gibson Friday well after bedtime: The last three runners didn't affect today's leader board. Friday 8.10: Down to the last three, and a new joint leader in James McGee and Becca. Friday 7.25: Eight to run, and James McCaffrey and CAP have joined William Gallagher on 177. Friday 6.20: Still thirteen to run, but with a standard now in place, things should move on a little more quickly. John Harkin and Killiebrae Jock have taken over in second place running at No 81, but noone else has troubled the leaders. Friday 5.00: Some more good runs, Dominic McMullan and Gyp moving into third place for today. There are still 21 runs to go, so another late finish is on the cards. Friday 3.20: Almost half of today's handlers have been to the post, and there are already some higher scores on the board. Since the last update, Toddy Lambe with Sam and William Gallagher with Groesfaen Roy have joined the leaders. Friday 1.35: The second day's Brace results are in. Dennis Birchall's score is within ten points of yesterday's Brace leader, so at the moment Sammy Long and Dennis Birchall are in line to represent Ireland in the Brace, but there three more Brace runs tomorrow. Friday 12.35: The weather today is worse rather than better, but the forecast for tomorrow is good (at the moment). Yesterday's top scorer, Frankie McCullough, tops today's list again, with the highest so far over the two days. Friday 7.35: Today's trialling is about to start - updates throughout the day.
The sheep were tricky in the shedding ring on the Thursday Thursday 9.05: Today's trialling has finished at 9.00, only just beating the light! One final entry into the top five, current Brace leader Sammy Long with Lad on 171. Today's successful team members are listed below. Tomorrow another 50 singles and three brace handlers go to post to compete for another five International and eight World Trial places. Pictures to follow soon. Thursday 8.15: Just four to go, but we have the second new leader in half an hour: Frankie McCollough with Jake on 180, leapfrogging John O'Brien's 174 with Shep. Billy Ryan has also posted 168 with Dan. The leader board has also changed significantly. Thursday 7.25: 39 runners of today's 50 posted, and there have been a few changes, but so far nobody has beaten Seamus Robinson's 171 with Rodge, posted at run 5 early this morning. Of the last few runners, Michael Gallagher had a good run but ran out of time at the single. Thursday 5.25: 31 scores now on the board, and a good run from John Cremin with Killiebrae Kaye has found a place amongst the leaders. Thursday 1.15: The first two Brace runs have been completed. Sammy Long has the better score so far with Moss & Sam, on 244. The singles are resuming after the lunch break. Thursday 12.15: Fourteen results are now on the board, and scores so far are fairly low, with only five of 141 or above. The first Brace runs will be starting shortly: John Maginn running Sweep & Jack and Sammy Long with Moss & Sam. Thursday 11.10: Trialling has begun on a dry but fairly cloudy day. The first scores are up on the hot trials reults page here. Current leader is Seamus Robinson with Rodge on 171, with two on 158. The blackface sheep are good round the course, but have been a challenge to many in the shedding ring and to a lesser extent at the pen, with several running out of time. The course itself is tricky - on both outruns the dog loses sight of the sheep, and there is also a section of the fetch where the sheep aren't visible to the handler. The sheep are good, but very responsive to the dog, light, and touchy at the top, making high scores hard to come by.
