No 8 - Shepherds' Crooks

A 1930s Downland scene - shepherd and sheep, and even dog have almost vanished into the mists, but the leg crook is silhouetted clearly in the sunlight.

Young Handler Elin Pyrs is presented with a commemorative shepherds' crook at the 2009 International trials at Lowther Park.

Then and now - a good crook is a practical tool, but also a work of art. All take the same basic form, but no two are ever quite the same, reflecting the natural materials from which they are made and the craftsmen who fashioned them.
